Travel: Venice, Italy

I had been to Venice once before, visiting all the must see’s. This time my purpose was to meet up with a dear old friend. A quick visit wasn’t really possible as I soon realized being embarrassingly late from the prearranged meeting point. Eventually making it we had a great time. After racing through the small alleyways getting to our rendezvous we enjoyed some food while catching up. I wasn’t on a schedule getting back to Slovenia so I managed to take my time taking pictures while navigating back through the city. And yes getting lost a few more times than I would like to admit…

On this visit I saw a different type of Venice. Quiet alleys and decaying architecture with peoples laundry drying amidst it all. People who live through their routine while just a few confusing turns around an odd number of corners there are millions of tourists exploring the sinking city. I saw a quiet Venice as well as the crowded Venice, I saw the beauty and I saw the fracture. And I had some delicious ice cream 🙂

Starting back towards Slovenia were caught up with the rain again. Impressive skies and somewhat wet toes.

Travel: Drive between Ljubljana and Nova Gorica

After so many rainy days we had a great day for our trip from Ljubljana to Venice, Italy. With a stop in Nova Gorica on the way. Picture quality is a little low due to the moving car and window they were taken through. BUT! Just wanted to show the beautiful scenery that Slovenia has to offer!

In two days I’ll be posting from my day visit to Venice, Italy.

Travel: Predjama Castle, Slovenia

First stop when back in Slovenia was the picturesque Predjama Castle. The castle is situated 9 km away from the most famous cave in Slovenia, the Postojna Cave and entered the Guinness World Records list as being the largest castle built in the entrance to a cave (to check it out click here).

It seems to be unknown when the castle was exactly built but the most convincing guess I came across is the 12th century. The original name was Jama Castle which translate to cave castle.

After taking a few (dozen) pictures of me posing in front of the castle we started towards Ljubljana. A long day on the road behind us we reached our destination. To check out our road trip routes on a map see my previous post here.

Travel: Istria, Croatia

My travel posts got left off in Istria, Croatia. Sorry for the few month break, I’ll make sure to catch you up on the rest of my trip for sure.

Heading towards the Slovenian boarder we kept to the coastline as much as possible. The weather was windy and a little chilly but it did give the pictures an unique feel.

The last of your Croatian kunas we spent at a little cafe/bar in the last picture. The wind brought seawater splashes to our faces but was quite nice sitting there so close to the water.
